Honoring our shared symbol with safe water for all

It's smart bipartisan legislation that will demand that US foreign assistance investments are cost-effective and sustainable, target those in greatest need, and leverage private resources while requiring transparency. It integrates US water policy into our global development work far more effectively and efficiently. It will profoundly improve millions of lives -- and -- it won't cost a penny more!
At this time of economic uncertainty, it makes all the more sense and cents. So whether Republican or Democrat -- make sure YOUR representatives in Congress support this bipartisan legislation (and if not, ask them why not?) No one can be against a safe glass of water for a child...can they?!
2. Below is contact information for your Congressional representatives (both House and Senate); you can call or we've provided a sample letter you're welcome to re-write and send. Include your name/address/zip code so they know you're a voter in their district. THAT'S how you make an impact!
3. THIS SECTION WILL BE UPDATED AS SOON AS THE LEGISLATION IS INTRODUCED
IMPORTANT: If you live in certain states or districts your call or letter to your congressional reps will have an even more direct impact because they sit on committees that need to prioritize and pass this legislation, before it can be put up for a vote by the whole House or Senate. [Click here to find out if your congressman is on this list.] Then ask them by letter, email or phone to be a co-sponsor and PASS THIS ACT!

Dear Legislator:
Whether you are of faith or of heart, we fail miserably as humans when 8000 children die -- every day -- from something you and I take for granted: a safe glass of water. The U.S. government urgently needs to help solve this fundatmental crisis that undercuts so much of the good secular and non secular development work we do. I urge you to co-sponsor and support passage the bipartisan "Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act."
Water, sanitation and hygiene solutions are fundamental to effective global development. For every $1 invested in water and sanitation, at least $4 is returned in increased productivity and decreased medical costs. These investments have immediate impact on global health, education and economic growth. And that affects all of us.
Congress committed itself to expanding access to clean water and sanitation with passage of the Water for the Poor Act back in 2005. But for it to be fully implemented, Congress must follow through with passage of the Water for the World Act.
If you can't support this legislation, I would like to know why. You can't possibly be against a safe glass of water for a child...can you?
Every day and every month that goes by means thousands more children will die mostly preventable deaths. With your leadership we have a chance to improve millions of lives and make water the source of health and life -- for all.
